Laguna Health and Spa's 5th Birthday coming up!
Laguna Health and Spa celebrate their 5th birthday this March and in order to mark this special birthday we will be holding a party in the gym on Thursday 29th March 2011. Come and join in the fun with free give aways, a live DJ, free samples and class taster sessions.
Cardiff - Paris pre Paris Half Marathon treadmill challenge at Laguna Health and Spa 12th Feb 2011
In preparation for the Paris half marathon that a group of staff from Glamorgan Cricket and their friends completed, we held a pre fundraising challenge here at Laguna Health and Spa. The team and fellow friends and members of the gym took up the challenge to run the equivalent distance from Cardiff to Paris - some 305 miles.
Whilst it can be said that everyone played a key role in completing the challenge, there was one gym member that superseded any expectations and completed a full marathon for the cause.
David Coles, who has done many marathons and Ultramarathons in his running career, such as 100km races and the Comrades Ultramarathon in South Africa, set himself the target of doing a full marathon on the treadmill in under 3 hours as part of the Laguna challenge for Velindre Hospital.
On the day, he just succeeded by 30 seconds, and admitted it was one of the toughest challenges he can remember, probably more mentally than physically. Towards the end he says he visualised the sights he remembers from his last marathon (in Berlin last year), as well as listening to the music provided and constantly topping himself up with jelly babies and glucose tablets. He'd like to thank Laguna for organising the event and for the opportunity of doing this unusual challenge and for the incentive to do it for Velindre Hospital and would also like to congratulate everyone else who contributed to the 337 miles achieved on the day and exceeded their own expectations of what they could do.
